This page contains some of the animations I have done to develop experience with those tools.
Waiting Room began as just a sketch of chairs and a wall while I was in a medical waiting room. On my drive home I thought it would be interesting to giving life to the waiting room by animating some of the people that came through while I was there. Because of my experiences mentioned below, I was able to plan better for stitching together multiple animations along with another soundtrack I produced using Garage Band.
Sunset Pier was created to leverage the watercolor aspect I learned in Sea Life (below). This video got so complex that I ended up having to segment the video into several snippets. In doing that, I learned about several techniques to make piecing those snippets together. I took advantage of those learnings in the next animation (see Waiting Room, above)
Sea Life evolved so that most of the animated elements are pixel (i.e. paint) based rather than vector (i.e. pen) based. I really like to soft and fluid feel of this, and I am inspired to continue down this path. We shall see what comes next.
Breeze started out as a 4x6 inch post card. I was experimenting with paint versus pen (as always), and then I had more and more ideas about things I could add to an animated view. So here you have it.
Hearthwalk began, as others in this collection, as a 6x4 inch post card. I was sitting in my chair looking at a vase on the hearth and I was exploring ways of expressing what I saw. Then came the ideas for animation. Something that happens more often than not; as you will see.
For Space, I had a vision of an animation I wanted to experiment with where a vehicle (star ship in this case) weaves between rock formations. Then I had the idea of seeing how well I could simulate lightning. Those two concepts drove this project.
I wanted to have a video to celebrate my retirement, hence Retired. It came together as a mishmash of things, and one idea followed another. It took several passes improving effects: the rolling ocean, the footprints in the sand, the waves, etc.
As is the case for many others that follow, I first wanted to explore a nice 6x4 inch post card. And I've been wanting to work on my skills for drawing an assortment of flower like plants. Once I got started, the idea to add animation came, and with it came the frog, the butterfly, and the plane. So I call this First One, referring to my first animation.
